WOUND DRESSINGS
WITH MEDICAL CHESTNUT HONEY
We help reduce the number of amputations.
We reduce social isolation of patients with chronic wounds.
Vivamel – medical chestnut honey demonstrates significant therapeutic potential in the treatment of chronic and acute wounds.
Thanks to its composition and characteristics, medical chestnut honey is the perfect choice for wound treating.
Sugar with its high osmotic activity cleans the wound, creates a moist environment in it, and protects it from external influences – prevents infection and secondary tissue damage.
Inflammation, swelling, and pain fade away faster, granulation and epithelialization intensify, scar formation is decreased.
WOUND TREATMENT WITH MEDICAL CHESTNUT HONEY ACCELERATES HEALING.
MOJCA KREGAR, TOSAMA
Vivamel – medical chestnut honey is distinguished by COMPLEX MECHANISMS that efficiently accelerate wound healing.
MAINTAINS MOIST ENVIRONMENT
In a moist environment created by medical chestnut honey, the wound is proven to heal up to five times faster than in a dry one. Medical chestnut honey creates and maintains a moist environment in the wound due to the high osmotic activity of the sugars it contains.
PROMOTES DEBRIDEMENT AND CLEANING
In the healing process, removal of necrotic tissue from the wound is extremely important. It functions as a physical barrier that prevents healing and is an ideal breeding grounds for bacteria. Medical chestnut honey activates the autolytic and proteolytic debridement in the wound.
ANTIINFLAMMATORY & ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITIES
Chronic wounds tend heal slowly because they stall in the inflammatory phase, in which free radicals are formed, destroying the newly formed cellular structures of tissues. Medical chestnut honey that is rich in antioxidants inhibits free radicals. Therefore, the inflammation in the wound stops and subsides, and healing progresses.
ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY
In the wound healing process, reducing the microbial load is crucial. Medical chestnut honey with multiple antimicrobial mechanisms has been proven to exhibit antibacterial properties against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA, VRE, and fungi.
PREVENTS AND DESTABILIZES BIOFILM
Research has confirmed that among all types of honey chestnut honey is the most effective in preventing the formation of biofilm. It contains kynurenic acid, which possesses the ability to shut down the communication between bacteria within the biofilm and thus destabilizes it.
STIMULATES GRANULATION & EPITHELISATION
Sugars naturally contained in honey give cells the energy to reconstruct. Medical chestnut honey with its high content of potassium, calcium, zinc, manganese, and proline stimulates the process of proliferation in the wound.
REDUCES WOUND MALODOUR
Bacterial infections and inflammation in the wound can cause an unpleasant odour. Medical chestnut honey reduces wound malodour as bacteria feed on the glucose from honey instead of wound exudate. The byproduct of glucose metabolism is lactic acid, which does not have the odour and creates an environment unfavourable for microbes.
WOUND HEALING FOLLOWS THE TIME CONCEPT
TIME CONCEPT is a modern and comprehensive approach to wound management. Through analysis, testing, and clinical studies, we have proven that the use of Vivamel wound dressings follows the four steps of this concept.
Vivamel medical chestnut honey has an exceptional ability to adapt to the needs of the wound – at each stage, it develops several EFFECTS that take place continuously and simultaneously, which further accelerates wound healing.
IDEAL RATIO OF SUGARS
Honey is a saturated solution of sugars (up to 80%), simple and complex ones. Sugar uses the osmotic principle to dehydrate bacteria and simultaneously triggers a local immune response in the wound. Osmotic pull of fluids from the tissues activates autolytic debridement, so the necrotic tissue in the wound softens and is easier to detach.
ACIDIC pH
Medical chestnut honey creates an acidic environment in the wound that triggers the healing process, prevents the growth of bacteria, and regulates the level of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).
KYNURENIC ACID
Biofilm is present in most chronic wounds. It is a cluster of slow-growing bacterial cells that form a persistent polysaccharide protective coat. Chestnut honey is the only type of honey that contains kynurenic acid, which prevents the formation of biofilm or destabilizes it.
GLUCOSE OXIDASE
Medical chestnut honey contains glucose oxidase, an enzyme that is activated when honey is diluted. It triggers a reaction, in which gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide are formed. Hydrogen peroxide is released slowly and in low concentrations, the pH in the wound is further lowered, proteases are activated, and they stimulate proteolytic debridement.
HIGH CONTENTS OF ELEMENTS
Compared to other types of honey, chestnut honey stands out due to its high contents of potassium, calcium, manganese, and zinc. These elements are involved in the synthesis of collagen, which is a building block of newly formed tissue. Consequently, the processes of granulation and epithelialization in the wound are accelerated.
AMINO ACID PROLINE
One of the main indicators of chestnut honey’s authenticity is a high content of the amino acid proline. In the wound, proline acts as a potent antioxidant and is crucial in collagen synthesis.
ANTIOXIDANTS
Chestnut honey is rich in antioxidants, mainly in flavonoids and phenolic acids, as well as ascorbic acid and proline. Antioxidant activity and, by extent, anti-inflammatory action are based on the inhibition of free radicals. An oxidative balance is established in the tissue, which shortens the inflammatory phase and promotes wound healing.
100 % NATURAL ORIGIN
Pure, naturally produced SWEET CHESTNUT (Castanea sativa) honey in one of the purest types of honey with exceptional composition. For the production of Vivamel dressings with medical chestnut honey, exclusively naturally produced chestnut honey in 100% concentration without added thickening agents is used.
