- MAY – WORLD BEE DAY
Tribute to bees and beekeepers
World Bee Day is celebrated on 20 May every year. The initiative to dedicate a special day to these precious insects was created years ago in Slovenia by the Beekeepers’ Association of Slovenia. They chose 20 May because the pioneer of Slovenian beekeeping and a teacher at the first beekeeping school in the world (in Vienna), Anton Janša was born on this day.
World Bee Day is very gratefully celebrated at Tosama. At our company, we dedicate a great part of our attention, studies and our work to honey, this precious gift by the bees. Chestnut honey is the main active ingredient of VIVAMEL wound dressings developed by Tosama. Sterile chestnut honey is an effective natural agent that creates a moist environment in the wound and promotes healing without toxic side effects. It affects factors that inhibit healing significantly and simultaneously activates processes that accelerate healing. Its exceptional effectiveness in the treatment process has been confirmed by several studies and clinical tests.

Today, Vivamel wound dressings by Tosama are a valued medical device. They have successfully helped healing many chronic wounds, treating and soothing many burns, and healing countless small wounds, abrasions, and scratches.
Therefore, World Bee Day is an excellent reminder of how valuable cooperation with nature is. At Tosama, we believe that the return to nature and the increasing demand for natural raw materials and products are not only a current trend, but more and more an imperative of humanity. For this reason, for many years now, we have been directing most of our development potential to finding the most human-friendly products – those that can be labelled as natural. With Vivamel, we have already proven that even in a demanding field such as medicine, using ancient knowledge on natural resources helps achieve top results.
Bees need a clean environment to continue their mission, and each of us can help preserve clean and healthy water, air, meadows, and forests. A systematic approach to environmental protection is the most effective. We can make sure that natural surfaces are clean, use chemical plant protection products correctly, grow honey plants, cultivate vegetables as organically as possible, etc.
World Bee Day is therefore also our, Tosama’s day. It helps us in our efforts to raise awareness about honey as a valuable and extremely effective wound healing substance.
